Our Lady of the Rosary appears illuminated in the middle of the waters, as if she were being sighted for the very first time. The scene evokes popular narratives of her apparition, in which the image of the saint is found in the waters during the night, surrounded by an almost supernatural luminosity, as if something orbited around her. 

In the composition, horses appear as somber figures, bearers of a silent mystery, as though they knew something that escapes human understanding. Beyond engaging with the imagery of Afro-Brazilian religions—where those who receive ancestral spirits are called “horses”—the artist understands this animal as a symbol of mystery, ancestry, and a deep knowledge that traverses time.
