Ayla de Oliveira’s painting emerges from a spiritual and sensitive experience, deeply rooted in the traditions of umbanda. Through compositions that evoke a broad repertoire — drawing from still life, portraiture, landscape, and icon traditions — the artist constructs images charged with strong symbolic and energetic presence, where candles, fruits, flowers, drinks, and offerings become tangible manifestations of the invisible. Her practice explores techniques such as encaustic on wood and mixtures of wax and oil, creating dense and vibrant surfaces, where fields of color operate as open, ever-changing planes. The pictorial matter, often worked in loose gestures or undefined masses, reinforces the idea of an image in a state of passage — between intention and intuition, between the material and the spiritual. By articulating faith, ritual, and affection, the artist develops a poetics that offers itself as both icon and talisman. Her works propose a space for contemplation and reconnection, reaffirming art as a field for expressing presence, the sacred, and the hidden forces that shape the world.
